GST Rate Finder App

The government on Friday launched an app called “GST Rate Finder App” which as the name suggests is your ready reckoner for all the tax rates that are to be levied under the GST (Goods and Services Tax) regime. The app has been developed by the Central Board of Excise and Custom (CBEC).

“First app of its kind which would be a ready reckoner for public, for customers, for consumers, traders, students, anyone who wishes to have very handily (GST) rates available. So, if you are in a market, a restaurant or anywhere you can easily check what the (GST) rate.There are more than 1,250 goods and services in country that have been put under 0 per cent, 3 per cent, 5 per cent, 12 per cent, 18 per cent and 28 per cent tax slabs. A ‘highest’ tax slab of 40 per cent — which is just an enabling provision — has also been incorporated under GST. The GST Council had brought in the 40 per cent tax slab so as to make a future GST rate hike possible and to avoid going to parliament again. If the GST is a game changer then the ‘GST Rates Finder’ mobile app would be a milestone in India’s tax history.

The app is currently available on the Android platform and can be downloaded on any smartphone and it works in offline mode too., but will said. The rates can also be accessed from the CBEC GST website. The taxpayer can easily search any of the following –central GST, State GST, Union Territory GST rate and Compensation cess on an item.

How to use the app?

After downloading the app, open it and write the product name to be searched.After the user writes product name in the search box, he/she can scroll down the list of description and when any specific item on list is clicked, it’ll show GST rate of the same.The search can be made based on description of goods or HSN chapter or section/heading number. The purpose of the launch of ‘GST Rates Finder’ mobile app is to empower taxpayers, every citizen of the country and to ascertain correct GST rate on goods and services.
